Burning Bright - A Retrospective of Works by Alex Binnie

The London Tattoo Convention are thrilled to display a retrospective of tattoo artist Alex Binnie's works this September.

Celebrating 30 years of tattooing, Binnie will be displaying his signature handmade lino, woodcut and screen prints along with the release of his new book 'Burning Bright' in conjunction with tattoo art publishers Raking Light Projects.

Alex Binnie is known for founding Into You, the UK's first fully custom tattoo studio and as a prolific printmaker.

'I vividly remember seeing the rough tattoos on the lads that worked the fairground that came through our small town when I was a boy. Soon after, I had my first and have now been collecting tattoos for over 40 years and making them for around 30. After a stint in Los Angeles in the early 90's honing my craft in the then infant tattoo scene, I came back to the UK and started Into You tattoo in Clerkenwell, London in 1993. We were the first fully custom tattoo shop in the UK, and have been described as "London's seminal tattoo institution".

I have been making art outside of tattooing for many years. Printmaking is now my primary alternative medium; I enjoy the disciplined approach that is in some ways similar to tattooing. Much of my work is an expansion of my tattoo ideas, a place for me to experiment without the constraints of a client brief. All my work is made 100% by me without the use of computers! The colour prints towards the beginning are hand made silk screen prints, and the woodcuts and lino-cuts are printed by me on an antique press made in 1833.'

Visit The London Tattoo Convention this September 27-28-29th to view this incredible collection of work, and for the first chance to pick up a copy of 'Burning Bright' from Raking Light Projects.

Tickets are now available to buy online.
